First day of school, woohooo. It’s my junior year, and at time, it still feel like a freshman. By the way, sorry for not updating in days! I was trying to enjoy my last few days of summer vacation.

First day outfit consisted of:
-Denim vest from Wet Seal
-Cami from Forever 21 (though that doesn’t matter much, camis are a dime a dozen)
-pink shirt from H&M
-black jeans from PacSun
-random jewlery: necklace- Tiffany’s, bracelet- La Vie en Or. French store? Svana, my exchange student got it for me. What a sweetie!, earrings- Charlotte Russe

Summer 2009
As this summer begins to draw to an end, I am really thankful for the good times I had. Hanging out with friends just about everyday, going to good shows, days at the beach, and night that glowed with fireflies and stars made this summer extraordinary.

The Beach
This was mentioned in the last paragraph, but it deserves one of it’s own. The beach is pretty much the pinnacle of the summer experience. Funny story: once this summer, I actually had to get rescued by lifeguards. My friend and I got caught in a rip current. I began swimming parallel to the shore to break free, and realized it was not working. I turned around to wave for help, but ten lifeguards were already running into the water to rescue us. Was scary at the time, but makes for a good story.

Return of the 80′s
Leather jackets? Denim vests? Yes please. Especially on the denim vest front, I’m on a mission to find one.

OH NOES! I just realized August is almost over. FML. However, this is aside the point of this post. The point of this post is to share with you my outfit today. I have not done one of these posts in quite some time. So let’s see some crappy mirror pictures of my outfit, wooo! Today, my friend Mary and I decided to venture to the church where we met after four hours of sleep. This is what I wore.

-Shirt: Heritage 1981

-Earrings: birthday gift, meaning I do not know where.

Making Over America

On TLC there is a new make-over show, entitled Making Over America. It premiered last Friday at 10 PM Eastern and will be on again tonight, and every Friday afterward, at the same time. Last week, I watched the show and fell in love with it. Cameras follows around style gurus Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine, two English woman on a mission to redress the women of the United States. Trinny and Susannah are quite hands on; they do not shy away from touching women’s breasts to help assess the individual’s body type. The duo is not only funny, but extraordinarily compassionate. They understand the insecurities of females and work with ladies to improve their confidence through the power of accepting and dressing appropriately for one’s body. Susannah and Trinny provide both tips to looking fabulous and a few laughs along the way. Catch one episode, and you will be hooked.

Let’s Talk Cowboy Boots

Sorry for the long hiatus, few readers I have! There is no real reason for this, just a lack of dedication. However, after seeing Julie and Julia tonight (which is quite a cute movie), I was inspired to revive my blog. So here we are chillun, first post in months!

Let’s talk cowboy boots.

I recently decided that, aside from a denim vest, my wardrobe would be completed with cowboy boots. Why? BECAUSE THEY’RE AWESOME, THAT’S WHY. While they are highly functional in the West, they are highly cute everywhere else. Maybe my cowboy boots don’t tell the truth, seeing as I was born in New York (play on lyrics from The Format? Anyone? Anyone? No?), I still love them and enjoyed my quest in finding them. Let us go through my plight.

First, I hit up Factory Brand shoes. Alas, all the boots were Ugg-like. My apologies to all Ugg enthusiasts, but they are fugly and meant to be used as slippers. Really over-priced slippers. Next, I ventured to the land of Nine West. I found some boots that were not cowboy-esque in the least bit, however, the allure of Nine West began to draw me in. One hundred an nine dollars? No sweat, right? Luckily, my mother was there to remind me that no matter how exciting Nine West is, cowboy boots were what I had been talking about incessantly for the past two weeks. Next I ventured to Bass, where I found cowboy boots(!)…..for again, $109. Not worth it. While driving the car to Lucky Brand Jeans, for the usual browsing, a shoe store I had never heard of caught my attention: Rack Room Shoes. “I might as well look,” I told my mother as she pulled over. I walked to the size 8 section and there it was: a beautiful selection of cowboy boots. Two caught my eye immediately.

One like such, rather flashy. The ones I saw were bedazzled.

The other pair resembled the ones on the far left, except they were slouchy.

In the end, I opted for the second pair. It was not quite the classic cowboy cut and style, but at the end of the day, it was not bedazzled. Because what kind of cowboy has rhinestones on his boots?

This was the first New Year’s my three best friends and I got to all be together. Usually, someone has to be somewhere else. One was a little late, but that’s OK. I also went out to dinner and had really good food. And it was healthy! Go 2009!

Twiggy is a living legend. Born Lesley Hornby, Twiggy became the “face of ’66″ and brought mod to the masses. The following is a brief exert of her stardom from the ever-trust-worthy wikipedia.

“In 1966, Nigel Davies noticed the young Lesley Hornby and offered her a modeling contract. She was only 16 and weighed 6½ stone (41 kg, 90 lbs).^[4] Davies advised her to go by her childhood nickname, Twiggy, and renamed himself Justin de Villeneuve. After sweeping England as “The Face of ’66″ when her modeling pictures, taken by Barry Lategan, were made public, Twiggy arrived in New York in March 1967. It was believed that the Twiggy craze would die down within a month; however, she became an icon and a supermodel. Known for the high fashion mod look created by Mary Quant, Twiggy changed the world of fashion with her short-haired androgynous look^[5]. So let us celebrate the icon today. The girl who brought about the popular androgynous style and later became a judge on the ever-popular America’s Next Top Model. Mod was a revolution, and Twiggy was at the forefront. She’s one thing you must be to remain a legacy: unforgetable.

Do’s and Don’ts of Black Friday

As a seasoned Black Friday shopper, I feel like I have a good grasp on proper etiquette for what is known as the busiest shopping day of the year. I have gone through it all on this day: leisurely leaving the house at my own selected time and waking up at the crack of dawn. Though I must say, I am not as hardcore as some of my cousins. For the past for years, we have been visiting my aunt and uncle for Thanksgiving. All through turkey day, their two grown daughters sit on the couch and cut coupons from hundreds of catalogs, flyers, etc. It’s madness. They proceed to pull an all nighter and go shopping at midnight. Midnight. They’re insane. On these occasions, I tend to sleep until seven and have them come back to pick me up later. Anyways, for the first time in years, I spent Thanksgiving at my house. So my two friends and I will be shopping at 10. I am prepared to conquer Christmas/Hanukkah/ Kwanzaa shopping head on.

Do Make A List
You want to know what you’re buying. If you go in like “OH I’LL JUST PICK UP WHATEVER LOOKS GOOD” you’re bound to pick a few crappy gifts. Ask as many people what they would like for a gift. Then write it down. If there are a few people who you have no definite gift idea for, that is OK, but for the most part know what to look for beforehand.

Don’t Wait Until One in the Afternoon to Head Out
You’ll miss all the good deals. No, you don’t have to be hardxxxxcore and start your day at 4 AM, but by the afternoon you’ll have missed at on the best offers.

Do Go with More Than One Person
If you have a team, obviously, it’s more fun, but it’s much more practical too. Tell everyone you’re with what you are looking for. That way, one of the members of your party can spot something you don’t. Besides, who doesn’t like shopping with friends?

Do Stop for Breakfast
Shopping on empty stomach= bad news.

Don’t Be Obnoxious to Salespeople
A rule of life: kissing ass does, in fact, help you get what you want. So be charming when asking for help. If you’re rude and arrogant no salesperson is going to be jumping to help you at the very moment they can. Basically, do not be a bitch.

Do Try to Get the Majority of Your Shopping Done
While gas prices are dropping, nobody has any real desire to make a thousand trips to the mall to pick up last minute gifts. You may want to pick up some extra gifts just in case you realize later on you left someone off your list.

Don’t Fret
Holiday shopping can be stressful, but don’t have a nervous breakdown in the middle of a packed Macy’s or Best Buy (but feel free to break down in Sears! Just kidding). There are lots of people, and lots of excitement and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. However, shopping is supposed to be fun. If a store has run out of all iPod Touches, it’s OK: there are other stores and you can always order online. Never panic and never get in a bitch fight with the other costumers. Everyone is stressed. Chill out and try to keep an open mind. Happy shopping.
